Nintendo Adds Small Update To Switch Eshop – News

The Switch eShop can be, much like the rest of the system’s OS, best described as spartan. Yesterday, however, Nintendo quietly added a “Games on Sale” category shop to help mitigate the store’s flea market-like organization problems.

Despite the Switch’s reputation as a successful platform for indie titles, the eShop itself has gone through very few changes since the console’s launch in March. Although developers could put their games on sale by their own will, there was no way to surface that beyond outreach via social media. Now, putting a game on sale changes its categorization so that it will show up in the Games on Sale section.

The category can be found on the left side of the Switch eShop’s front page, alongside New Releases and Coming Soon.

This is the first update to the eShop since Nintendo added a Best Sellers list for each region since April 3. In January, an update was promised for Switch owners to use the capture button to record videos before the end of 2017.

 

Our Take
Nintendo usually aims major firmware updates for the fourth quarter of the year, ahead of the holiday rush, so I wonder if this small update portends something bigger in the near future. There is still a long list of things Nintendo should tackle, but this is a good first step.

You just shouldn’t forget that you were once in a losing situation, so try to avoid that of happening again;
  • You shouldn’t stop playing, because we all know that this is the way you will learn that game better and better. No matter if you win or not, every time you play you can learn something new;
  • In order to practice your Texas Hold’em poker game you should try to play every available poker- online or in a real casino.

A test of strength.

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Marvel’s The Gifted: “eXodus”!

The Gifted delivers another solid episode that, while not without its flaws, continues to explore the themes of the X-Men in compelling fashion. The two main threads of the episode – Kate and the kids seeking help from a relative and Reed being forced to betray the mutant underground – both have their highlights that shine through despite the execution being a little rough around the edges.

The episode started with another flashback that gave a few more tidbits on the history of this world and on how the mutant underground got its base of operations, but more importantly, it showed the initial spark that led to Lorna and Marcos being an item. Given that The Gifted is a fairly serious show where characters are fueled by pain and desperation, it was wonderful seeing a moment of levity where Lorna helps Marcos embrace the joy of being a mutant. The scene was played just right by both actors, whose excellent chemistry creates a heart-warming moment just as beautiful as their Northern Lights power combo effect.

However, life sucks in the present. One of our brief check-ins with Lorna showed that she’s testing out the limits of her collar, managing to pry open her cell door at the cost of some internal hemorrhaging. Given that Lorna has had some of the best material on The Gifted thus far — not to mention she’s a high-profile character from the comics, the daughter of Magneto — it’s a shame we get so little of her. I’m a bit skeptical of the writers’ choice to make mutant powers somewhat usable while wearing the collar because it feels like an easy way to let her eventually escape, but at least it’s coming at a steep price that will, assumedly, have consequences. All that trauma to her body can’t be good for her unborn baby.

It turns out that Blink’s powers are still on the fritz even after her recovery last episode, only this time instead of her ability going into overdrive, she can’t make her portals work. While her portals have been a convenient plot device in the first two episodes, it’s nice to see her character getting development instead of just making her a mutant taxi. She appears to be forming a bond with John, who is trying his best to help her focus on something positive to make her powers work. But the inclusion of Dreamer, John’s old flame, creates an awkward dynamic. Perhaps it was that her character never got a proper introduction — I had to look up who she was because I don’t recall ever hearing her name said out loud — but it feels like she’s being shoehorned into the plot purely to brew extra drama. I tried my best not to roll my eyes when Dreamer offered to use her memory-manipulating power to help Blink, only to be told not to by John, and then do it anyway during the episode’s climax. Why did Dreamer choose John to be the subject of Blink’s affection? Couldn’t she just have made Blink think someone in the car had a warm jelly donut, rather than create a false love triangle with the man she clearly still has affection for?

Also, while on the subject of Blink, those thick, green contacts have got to go. It’s admirable they tried to give her comics-accurate eyes, but they look so unnatural, so obviously like thick plastic discs resting on her eyeballs, that it ruins any attempt at the illusion of real, mutated eyes.

The idea that Kate would sneak out with the kids to seek help from Uncle Danny seemed a little too naive, especially given how dangerous her family’s situation has become, but then again I was able to roll with it because desperate people do desperate things, especially for those they care about, as Marcos forgivingly points out. Danny wound up being a Grade A jerk who wouldn’t stick his neck out even for his relatives, which helped lay on the discrimination nice and thick like this show does so well. And then his punk of a son went and got the neighbors all riled up. It was a bit of a stretch to see so many people in that nice neighborhood not only had guns but were willing to give chase and fire upon a car full of people, even for a big cash reward. And what’s with Lauren refusing to put up a shield because she can’t see out the dirty window? It just wasn’t convincing because it was so obviously done to ratchet up the tension.

Still, the best material to come out of that plotline was how Andy’s inner rage is beginning to boil over. He not only flippantly suggested robbing a bank but was the first to offer to use his powers against the mob and decided to go ahead and fire them off anyway after being told the moral reason why he shouldn’t. Definitely getting some strong Magneto vibes from him with his “us and them” mentality, which is interesting to see from the guy who was throwing out the “mutie” slur in the pilot. He’s certainly leaning a lot into acting like his rumored comic book counterpart, which is a pretty deep cut that I will nevertheless not put here to avoid potentially spoiling it. (It’s easy enough to Google if you care to know.)

Reed’s time this episode was spent infiltrating the mutant underground by way of the bearded, camouflaging bartender. As compelling as Stephen Moyer’s desperate, under-pressure performance was, the scenario he was put in was a tad too emotionally manipulative of the audience. Of course he’s going to feel for the nice woman and her absolutely adorable little girl. But I wonder if he’d be so compassionate and self-sacrificing if he was riding in that van with some scaly dude with the power of garlic breath. That part of his storyline wasn’t the strongest, but it remains a delight watching Moyer’s Reed verbally spar with Coby Bell’s Turner, who continues to subtly show the slightest bits of humanity.

We saw the mysterious Roderick Campbell call up Turner to inquire about the Strucker children because he has a fascination with their brother-sister mutant dynamic. To my surprise, Turner turns Campbell down, essentially creating a third party in this two-sided war. Will Campbell attempt to “rescue” the Strucker family in order to conduct his experiments? And if the Struckers do go with him, will they be worse off than whatever Turner and Sentinel Services had planned for them? I can’t wait to find out.

Ultimately, this episode was about testing limits. Kate tested the bonds of family, and while at first flimsy, they ultimately proved strong. Conversely, Turner tested Reed’s resolve to betray the mutant underground in order to save his family, which at first seemed assured and then broke under pressure. And Lorna is literally testing the limits of her body by using her powers against her restraint collar, which might open the door to her freedom at the cost of something much more dear.

The Verdict

While The Gifted may have delivered its first uneven episode, it was still filled with the same tension and drama that got the show off to such a great start. The main issue was that the two main plot threads felt a bit forced at times. Still, there were great moments for Andy, Lorna/Marcos, and Reed/Turner that kept things interesting throughout.

Every year millions of visitors from Japan, mainland USA and beyond land at
Honolulu International Airport ready to begin their vacation in paradise. Soon after
landing, most visitors hop in a cab or bus sent from the hotel and begin the journey
past downtown Honolulu and on to their reservation at a Waikiki hotel.

The allure of Waikiki is immediate. The packed streets, sounds of the beach, and
exotic histories call to the traveler who soon hits the streets. Venturing out in
Waikiki can be quite exciting. The streets are filled with foreign languages, throngs
of tourists are dressed in their beach best, and the beginning of surf history can be
seen at the end of the street. Waikiki can be so exciting that many visitors never
escape its imaginary borders. Approximately 6 million of these visitors miss the very
sites that locals find so endearing, remaining within the two square miles of Waikiki.

For those travelers interested in seeing Oahu through its residents' eyes, please
read on.

Magic Island Beach Park – This popular park is located just west of
Waikiki, across the street from the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The park includes
two beaches, a three mile jogging path, tennis courts, and more. A walk around the
park will expose the center of Hawaiian culture – the family. Large extended families
gather around hibachis, spending the day together with a good food and plenty of
sun. The beaches are significantly less crowded, so for a great day, grab a barbecue
and head down to the beach at Magic Island!

The Contemporary Museum Honolulu – This small museum is located
high on a ridge at Makiki Heights Drive. The drive up the ridge offers amazing vistas
that would otherwise be missed by most Oahu visitors. The relatively small museum
offers changing exhibitions in its five galleries. After traversing the galleries, visitors
can wander out onto the sculpture gardens. This is where the true glory of the
museum is revealed. The 3.5 acres of sculpture and meditative gardens are open to
the public and offer some of the most amazing views of Honolulu.

Leong's Cafe – Many visitors look to a lu'au for more than entertainment;
they are after some great Hawaiian food. However, if you're interested in real local
style Hawaiian food, you can not beat Leong's Cafe located at 2343 North King Street.
As a favorite for plate lunches, kalua pig, lu'au stew, lomi lomi, and more, locales
have been visiting this cafe for over 50 years!

Champion Malasadas – The local treat called Malasadas are so popular
that Fat Tuesday has been re-christened Malasada Day throughout the Hawaiian
Islands. One of the best and most famous bakeries is Champion Malasadas located
at 1926 South Beretania Street. These light portuguese hole-less donuts come with
and without filling and are absolutely worth the effort in getting them!

Honolulu Chinatown – A walk through the streets of Chinatown in like a
walk into another time and place. Whatever you are looking for dim sum, fresh
produce, handmade leis, or the new hip lounge, you are sure to find it in Chinatown.
The streets and shops are exotic, offering items not found in a typical american
grocery. Guided walking tours are available for this historic district, but often the
best way is to simply meander through the streets, stopping whenever your interest
has been piqued.

If you are interested in seeing Oahu through a local's eyes, be sure to spend some
time outside of Waikiki. Stop by some or all of the listed listed above and see some
of what truly makes Hawaii special.

Being a celebrity means dealing with fan demands for autographs, ranging from polite and appropriate to rude and overbearing. One time Katherine Hepburn was performing on Broadway and tried to exit backstage through a crowd of jostling autograph hounds. Bodyguards helped her to her limo and once safely inside the very private star roled down the window and shouted, "Run em down! We'll clean up the blood later!" The crowd scattered and the limousine sped away, pausing long enough for Hepburn to roll down the window and wave goodbye to her fans, accompanied by an evil laugh. Strangely enough, when she lived in Beverly Hills the seclusion loving Hepburn developed the habit of sneaking into her neighbor's houses as a hobby. She became expert at climbing trees, avoiding alarms and dogs, and revealing herself just before her nervous neighbors called the police.

Walt Disney had the strange experience in the 1930s of having his name famous around the world when his face was not. Often he would forget his identification and that combined with his casual attire sometimes kept him out of fancy restaurants. Later in the 50's he became a recognized figure because of his television hosting duties. The lack of anonymity made it increasingly difficult for him to walk through Disneyland without being badgered for autographs. Disney struggled not to be brusque while explaining he did not have time, he was trying to make the park a better place. In the 60's when the company was trying to purchase Florida marshland for a second amusement park, he was warned by his advisors to stay away from the state, the real estate prices would go up once the identity of the buyer was known. But Disney could not resist. Eating in a Orlando diner Walt was approached by a curious waitress, "Pardon me. Are not you Walt Disney?" Walt who was known for being brutally honest, replied, "Hell no! And if I see that sob, I'll give him a piece of my mind."

Stars making movies at Universal Studios often try to avoid tour guides leading autograph hounds. One particular fellow became ingenious at tracking down Michael Caine, who toyed with the idea of ​​having the young man fired, then decided, "What the hell, I'll just sign" and was gracious. It turned out to be a good move, the tour guide was Mike Ovitz who later became the most powerful talent agent in Hollywood.

When stardom is new, autograph signing can be a thrill. One night in Paris the 60 year old Cary Grant and 25 year old Sophia Loren wanted to go out to dinner. "But the people will come up to us. I can not stand it!" said the jaded Briton. "I love it," said Sophia. Down came the hat, off came the glasses, the coat and the scarf and soon he was standing under neon lights to get noticed.

Another English actor named Grant was thrilled by his breakout stardom due to the movie Four Weddings And A Funeral (1994). Hugh Grant would drive around New York looking for the theaters where the film was playing then get out and wait in line, happy for the attention and to sign autographs. Later when he was arrested in Los Angeles for burning prostitute Divine Brown, he turned down requests to put his signature on tabloids containing his mug shot.

Some actors just sign out their annoyance. One time Arnold Schwarzenegger was being interviewed at a press joke when a reporter asked him for an autograph for his mother, a big no-no. The star grimaced and said, "Of course. I would not want to disappoint your mother." He paused then added, "I'm sure you have disappointed her enough already."

Autographs can cause internal conflicts for stars who take themselves too seriously. During the making of Klute (1971) Donald Sutherland received a written request from a fan who wished for an autograph for his daughter. Sutherland showed the letter to his humorless girlfriend Jane Fonda who expressed a strong opinion that he should not sign it, autographs that that movie actors are somehow superior to others. Sutherland bowed to her philosophy and wrote a letter stating his reasons for refusing the request. The man wrote him back, "Dear Mr. Sutherland, thank you for your letter.

Street Fighter V’s Final Season 2 DLC Character Revealed

As promised, Capcom has revealed its final Street Fighter V Season 2 DLC character at the 2017 South East Asia Major tournament this weekend. Zeku, the “ever-changing ninja” has returned.

A familiar face from Street Fighter Alpha 2, Zeku was once Guy’s teacher who taught him the ways of Bushinryu, a style of ninjutsu. Guy eventually went onto succeed him as the 39th master of Bushinryu, and Zeku mysteriously disappeared shortly after this. But now, Zeku has returned to create his own group of ninjas and forge a new fighting style.

From his reveal trailer, Zeku appears to be a very close-quarters fighter with relentless kicks, jabs, and stomps. He also has the ability to switch between two forms: his older, blonde self, and one that appears to have a striking resemblance to Strider Hiryu, another classic Capcom character. Both forms of his character will have three costumes as well.

Zeku will be available separately for £5/$6 or with the Season 2 pass alongside previously released characters Akuma, Kolin, Ed, Abigail, and Menat for £23/$30 on October 24. While you wait, make sure to check out the title’s latest DLC bundle of costumes for Halloween.

The Rift Online MMO Review

The Rift is the next generation breaking MMO game that has the potential to overtake World of Warcraft (WoW for short) and change the standard for the MMO gaming world. But I am going to state right now that in no way am I going to mark the score down for using elements from other MMO’s since that is the only way MMO’s can truly change and evolve (for the better).

The Rift is a game similar to WoW, but in all ways better. The graphics are very beautifully done for instance, and actually require you to have a decent graphics card to even play it. Meaning even at the lowest settings, the game looks like something that should be on a PS3 or Xbox 360, something WoW really lacks.

The story behind The Rift is pretty much an uprising against a tyrant who is defeated, then as the coward he is, tries to use a machine that is suppose to harness the magick of dragons, but since you cannot harness a dragons powers, it backfires and causes tears in the sky called “Rifts” which can appear anywhere at anytime and change the landscape drastically, along with summoning the undead and other monstrosities to come and kill you.

Some elements of WoW have been used in The Rift, or inspired by it, like the death sequences, though they did change it up a bit. You can either wait and re-spawn in the same spot where you died (which you can only do once per hour), or spawn as a spirit at a shrine and run back to your body, or just spawn right there at the shrine with an hp/mp, and exp penalty, just like the penalty in WoW.

The combat mechanics of the game are similar to that of WoW’s where you have a skill bar at the bottom of the screen where you place your skills, which are then activated by the 1-0 number keys, all pretty self-explanatory. The Rift also uses a unique combo system I have not seen in another MMO for a long time. When you strike an enemy with a skill, a skull will appear next to the enemies portrait, up to a total of 5-6 skulls, and the more you let those skulls build up, the more damage a skill will do if it utilizes the skulls. An example would be a rogue finishing skill, you build up the combo skulls and do a finishing skill move and the total amount of your damage is amplified for each skull you have built up (A bit confusing I know).

The tutorial in this game is so-so, just text popping up telling you what to do, and if your someone who is impatient (like me) you will probably skip over some important information, which is more of a personal problem than anything else, moving on.

There are from what I have been told, hundreds of quests, so you will have no trouble keeping yourselves busy. The quests consist mainly of reading some story told by an NPC about the war and what is happening and then having the task of going to kill a certain amount of monsters then returning for an award, the standard for all MMOs’ apparently.

There are 7 sub-classes to each main class, which are called souls. I will try to explain this to the best of my ability, but even I didn’t quite understand it at first either. The souls you use are pretty much your sub-classes. For example if you want to be an rogue assassin you go and absorb the soul of an assassin warrior (a trainer of sorts) and you can have up to 3 souls, meaning you can have 3 sub-classes of one class. For instance all classes have 7 sub-classes meaning you can have up to 3 different souls representing 3 of those sub-classes. Since I am a rogue, I went with assassin, I also absorbed the souls of a Blade Dancer, and a Rift Stalker. This is very confusing so bare with me!

The Rift also has it’s own version of a class tree, where for every level, you get a point you can place in your talent tree to make skills stronger and to unlock new skills for said sub-class, remember you can have up to 3 souls! so you may have to think carefully about where you want to put your points!
Like World of Warcraft The Rift is an open world, where no loading takes place and everything transitions smoothly through environments just like WoW is most known for.

Though for the steep price of $50 dollars and a reoccurring $15 dollar a month subscription fee I cannot say I will be getting this game since I am currently hooked on Dungeons and Dragons Online Unlimited. But for the current price and subscription fee it is a bit more expensive than a regular WoW expansion pack of 20-40 dollars but this game definitely deserves the money!

“The Rift” looks very promising for a game still in it’s beta testing phase, and I cannot wait see the finished product.

Overall NightmareStudioz gives The Rift a 10 out of 10, and it is highly recommended as an alternative to WoW especially since this game is still in it’s beta testing phase and shows such promise, and will no doubtingly overtake WoW as the largest game played in the MMO gaming industry.

Recently, a friend invited me to stop and slow down. Just for a few minutes.

I slipped off my shoes and felt the cool stepping stones in her garden under my feet. In a few short minutes, with all systems slowed to the moment in front of me, I felt like Alice in Wonderland-one moment staring up at the giant, waving leaf of a tropical banana tree and the next moment bent down, in awe at the mini, star-shaped moss tuft peeking out between a crack in the stones.

Ten minutes later, as I finished up this walking meditation in her garden, refreshed and ready to go about with my busy day, I knew it was something I wanted to remember to continue as a regular practice for myself and share with my favorite seven year old.

“Hey,” I said to the curly haired boy, “Wanna play The Slow Motion Game with me?”

“What’s that?” he responded, with the keen skepticism of a seven year old who has been around the block and played a zillion games or two in his lifetime so far.

“Well, it’s a kind of discovery game. We slow dooooown.” I started talking in slow motion speak. “And when we look aroooound we see things that we’ve neeeeeverrr seeeeeen beforrrrrrre.”

I could see the spark of interest lit in his eyes now.

“And whoever finds the most cool stuff is the winner?” he yelled excitedly.

“Sure, something like that.”

Five… Close your eyes

Four… Slowing down

Three… Your mind is going to sleep

Two… Your body is getting very relaxed

One… You are in slow motion mode. Open your eyes… And GO… s l o w w w w w w w w…

Our bare feet made their way slowly through the back yard. The dirt felt good sinking between my toes. I watched out of the corner of my eye as the boy did his best slow mummy walk and then presently crouched down.

Between the two of us, we discovered treasures galore in our familiar backyard space.

An army of ants coming out of tiny hole in the flower bed, a bright green arrowhead-shaped sprout shooting out ninety degrees from a tree branch, a baby fly sunning its translucent wings, a baby bee buzzing. We discovered the glossy, tightly curled leaf of a waxy flower pushing its way upward, and crystalline water drops sitting in the very center of a regal succulent. A family of pincher bugs scurried away as we studied the natural, hieroglyphic markings on an old tree stump.

Long after we finished playing, the curly haired boy was still bent over, looking at potato bugs curled up in tree hollows or looking up through tree branches, discovering many more unseen treasures in the garden.

I didn’t mention to the wild-haired one the part that we would feel ourselves coming back to ourselves during this game.

I didn’t mention that by slowing down our spinning minds, we would enliven all our other senses, as we became part of the world in front of us.

I didn’t mention that by slowing down, we recharge and reconnect with that vital source within us.

I didn’t mention that part to him. I didn’t have to.

Yes, this was a good game.
