The Future of Submarine Games

0 Game Walkthrough No Comments

In the last six months, the demise of sims has been pronounced in abundance. Print mags and sim webzines have been telling you sims are being ignored left and right Jane's A-10: Canceled. Wolfpack II: Canceled. Silent Steel II: MIA. M1Tank Platoon 3: Canceled. Fighting Steel Deluxe: Canceled. Jane's Attack Squadron: MIA. Thunder Over Europe: MIA. The list goes on.

We all know that this is a down cycle for sims and we believe there is hope that in a couple of years, things will turn around and sims will be hot stuff again. Hey, I remember in 1973 when the EPA and OPEC throttled the life out of the muscle car scene. I had a 1970 Cobra Torino that had 450 hp and ran the quarter in the high 13s. In less than three years every car out of Detroit was a smog controlled, gas economizing slug. They even started making them as ugly as they were slow! It was heartbreaking.

But over time, things change. Now you can get a high performance machine that handles and has luxuries like front / rear AC. My '99 Riviera has a supercharged V-6 that would make my old Torino proud.

So, keep the faith. Things will improve, even if no one knows when. Silent Hunter II and Destroyer Command are showing signs of life. Harpoon 4 is still under development. There are stirrings from the Sonalysts camp.

When a new subsim does not hit the shore, try to remember, the developers and game producers are our friends. They make the kind of games we like because they like them too. Why would they labor over armor thickness tables, ship model physics, and torpedo trajectories for a niche market? I know a few developers and they all love the genre.

Try to keep your criticism balanced. Should you blast a sim you had trouble with or did not enjoy with all the invective and animosity you would normally reserve for someone who used your car or used your toothbrush? I was told by one producer that high-level executives frequently ask him about hard-core negative postings on newsgroups and forums. The industry sees us as demanding, unappreciative, and impossible to satisfy. It's much easier and more lucrative to crank out Deer Hunter and Barbie games and their users rarely flame the game company to a crisp.

I work with a CPA accountant who likes computer games and is pretty good at them. He can play a mean Age of Empires warrior. I tried to interest him in learning Jane's 688 (I) for some multiplay. He took one look at the hefty manual and washed it off. He assumed he would need to learn all the material to play competitive. The blessing and the curse of a good sim is its complexity. Do you want to command a battle fleet or do TMA on a Los Angeles class submarine? You need to learn skills and study. And this restricts the popularity of the sim. Mass market games generally do not carry the steep learning curve a sim does. So while we hard core sim players are delighting in the minutia of seven different stations and all their controls, casual gamers are passing up the sim at a 20 to 1 ratio. Sims truly are a niche market.

Niche market games have limited budgets. This means a small number of programmers and artists must concentrate on the basics. Do not expect to see everything you want and imagine in a sim. Oh yeah, I'm with you – I wish a subsimp could have full motion crews and other fun stuff. But as one producer told me, "We do not have the money to design and integrate these features into the product. I wish we could, too."

We should be finding out the status of Silent Hunter II soon. Either Mattel Interactive is going to sign someone to complete it or it will be managed. I went through the "we are planning to do this" stage with the fabled Jane's Ice Pack add-on for 688 (I), Crusader Studios' Akula: Red Hunter, Silent Steel 2, and the interoperability between Jane's Fleet Command and 688 ( I). I'm not passing judgment here, just condemning that when the momentum dies, so does the objective. For whatever reasons, the product champions behind those sims were unable to secure the financing to start work. To get a better feel for the whole process, read my friend John Sponauer's analysis of the life and death of a sim, M1 Tank Platoon 2, from its early development as an upgrade all the way through its last couple of weeks.

Despite my previous experiences with other sim companies, I am optimistic that Carl Norman and Rick Martinez mean what they say and SSI will continue to raise the banner of the Digital Combat Series while the Jane's, NovaLogics, and Microproses around them fall like unfortunate tin soldiers . This is not to say SH2 is a done deal – that moment will come when you hold the box in your hand. We look to the next rumored subsim as our best hope for advanced underwater warfare. All we can do is stay positive, supportive, and if it's decent, buy four copies when it comes out.

PS4/Xbox One MMO Trove’s Megalithic Update Adds New Class, Biomes, And More Today

0 News No Comments

Update: Trove’s big new update is out now for both console versions. You can read about what to expect below or check out the launch trailer above.

Original Story: Trove for Xbox One and PS4 is releasing its first major update this week. The Megalithic update dropping Tuesday, June 27, will bring the Dino Tamer class, Jurassic Jungle biome, racing and coin collecting mini-games, and daily rewards.

Adding to the title’s prehistoric fun, the Dino Tamer is a ranged ruffian class, suited for life in the desert frontier and Jurassic jungle. This beastly fellow can use darts and snares to capture giant reptilian beasts, or summon a gargantuan dinosaur friend to aid in battle or hitch a ride.

The Jurassic Jungle is a lush environment teeming with dinosaur fiends and dungeons, from the floor all the way to the top of the canopies. Here, you’ll get the chance to pick up new recipes and gear, but watch out for the raptors, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus Rexes.

Rounding off this update, you’ll be able to play two new mini-games, racing and coin collecting, at the top of every hour in the Hub. It’s the perfect way to do more hourly challenges, or invite your friends to try something besides epic pixel dinosaur slaying and taming. And, what’s more, you’ll get special bonus chaos chests just for logging on every day.

5 Transmission Problems Corrected by New Additives

0 Game Walkthrough No Comments

Vehicle problems are a worrisome thing. Especially transmission problems.

Here is how to end these 5 common problems

  1. Slow shift when cold.
  2. Hang-up from one gear to the next.
  3. Rough shift or hard shift.
  4. Fluid leaks.
  5. Converter lock-up shudder at around 40 MPH..

Transmission shifting problems require an overhaul – if cleaning the valve body – the shift control parts, cannot be cleaned. While most transmission shops push you into the $3000 plus overhaul idea, it is because just cleaning your dirty transmission shift valves is a 2 hour money loser for the shop.

Overhaul has 75 % profit of around $2000. Labor for just valve cleaning with a fluid change produces $75 profit. Got that?

The chemical cleaning of your dirty valve shift valves – the method I promote – and I’m a mechanic, always ends rough shifts, shift hang ups, that transmission converter 45 mph lockup clunk, and restores smooth shifting. And cost about $100 to $150, not $2000. And you can do it yourself with my walk-through steps below.

I’ll walk you through the steps. Nothing needs to be taken apart, so relax on that point, too.

This is what research shows about rough shift problems.

It shows that friction drag, wear roughen surfaces, acids, high temperatures, and the resulting sludge residues are the common causes of transmission problems.

How Mega Power, a vehicle engine transmission additive treatment maker, solves your problem.

Four new products, from Mega Power combine to work as a problem solving treatment to end those 5 transmission problems.

The Mega Power Transmission Treatment contains, not just one ingredient like all other additives have, instead Mega Power has 4 of them. One ingredient to cover each of these rough shift causing conditions. One to end friction drag and smooth wear roughen gear and bearing surfaces. One to remove problems causing residues on your valve body to free and clean them, and neutralize acids. And a co-polymer for super lubrication, and to end excessively high temperatures. These ingredients condition the many seals to stop leaks. That is what you get for $100 to $150 instead of $3000 to end your worry, save lots of cash expense, while restoring transmission dependability again.

Products needed come in a kit called Mega Power Transmission Service Kit RS3. Here are directions for installation.

Step 1-Add Mega Power Transmission Cleaner TS-1 to the dirty transmission fluid. Drive to your local lube guy, to have him drain and replace the dirty fluid with new. Or do it yourself.

The TS-1 product free and clean sticky valve controls and removes harmful, sticky valve covered residues when the old fluid is removed. Those harmful residues bind gears and clutch movement, cause rough shifting, and hard shifts.

Step 2- After the new fluid in installed, add the Mega Power Transmission Fluid Conditioner #3, and Metal Conditioners #T to the new fluid.

TS-2 T and TS-3 products conditions the many harden and skrunken seals and gaskets that leak fluid, causing a lower hydraulic action, and slow shift problems. This ends slow shift, and leak problems in this way.

Mega Power #T and #3 Products correct one other cause of rough-shift, hard-shift, hang-up, and converter lock-up shutter. They do so by a surface smoothing with their MC+ metal conditioner. This advantage ends shift and hang ups caused by friction drag. These two products perform the friction reducing and surface restoring, and also beef-up the tensile strength of the fluid. This “fluid and metal conditioning” is needed as wear develops, and thicker fluid is needed to keep shifting working well again.

Step 3- For Slipping transmission problems.

To end slipping – you also add Mega Power #10 Oil Conditioner – along with the #T and #3 above to the new fluid. This product fills worn spaces and adds a thickener to help pump up the hydraulic pressures needed – close the clutches tighter, ending this cause of slipping.

Conclusion: This is the least expensive way I know of to correct 5 common transmission problems.

Results are almost immediate and permanent. Way less costly compared to actual overhaul. Although a few transmission shops use Mega Power, it’s seldom promoted.

Mega Power products have a very high success rate. Mega Power comes with a 90 day money-back guarantee – should your transmission require actual repair.

This remedy is worth a try to determine if it will work for your car or truck… george

“Too Early To Say” How Many OG Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Games There Will Be

0 News No Comments

One of the biggest announcements Microsoft made at E3 2017 was backwards compatibility support for original Xbox games on Xbox One. The console already plays Xbox 360 games through backwards compatibility, and the library of supported titles is pretty massive, recently having surpassed 385 games. But will the lineup of OG Xbox games be as big? It’s “too early to say,” according to Microsoft’s Dave McCarthy, but it sounds like it will not be.

Speaking to GameSpot, McCarthy said Microsoft only talked about Crimson Skies and Fuzion Frenzy at E3, but there are more games up and running.

“We have multiple games up and running–we just decided to tease the first one[s],” McCarthy explained. “There will be a library of games available, for sure.”

This follows what Xbox boss Phil Spencer said earlier this month. He outright confirmed that the lineup of OG Xbox games played on Xbox One through backwards compatibility will not be as extensive as the library of Xbox 360 games that work on the newer console.

In our interview with McCarthy, he said Spencer played a huge role in convincing the engineering team to add backwards compatibility support for Xbox 360 games on Xbox One. The team wasn’t sure it was possible at the start, apparently, but Spencer kept pressing the matter and the engineering team found a way. It’s the same engineering team doing the work for OG Xbox backwards compatibility.

“Phil is really good for this, in terms of audacious challenges we give the team,” McCarthy said. “It fit nicely into our compatibility story–games will play great across all our lineup. They’ll play best on Xbox One X. It kind of fit the whole vibe that we were trying to get in terms of choice for our customers. It is going to be a big program for us.”

The OG Xbox backwards compatibility program for Xbox One launches later this year. What titles would you like to see added the library? Let us know in the comments below!

These 7 Golf Tips Will Boost Your Game To The Next Level

0 Game Walkthrough No Comments

The secret to breaking 80 may not be found only at the range.

Nor may it be found only in golf tips, golf books, or golf lessons.

The secret to breaking 80 may also be found in recent performance research.

This research does not tell you how to drive a ball, sink a putt, or hit hit iron. Nor does it tell you how to play a course.

Instead, it tells you how to learn a motor skill. Knowing how you learn a motor skill can help you squeeze the most out of practice. More important, it speeds learning.

And speeding up learning can boost your game to the next level quickly.

Below are 7 practice tips based on performance research. Build them into your practice routines and boost your game to new heights.

Tip 1: Set specific goals

Setting specific goals, like eating par or winning the club championship, speeds learning. It also increases skill retention.

For best results, choose moderately challenging and long-term goals. Coupling them with even low levels of practice can boost learning as much as 400 percent.

Tip 2: Choose the right swing thoughts

Swings thoughts are valuable tools. But you need to use the right thoughts. The key is to use external swing thoughts, not internal ones.

Savvy golfers, use swing thoughts that refer to the club, not the body-thoughts like "Lean the shaft forward at impact" and not "Get my hands ahead of the club at impact."

Tip 3: Learn from a pro

When you learn from a pro, you play like one. So take golf lessons from a pro whenever you can. Highly effective, it's the best way to learn and the best way to achieve consistency.

A pro can see your errors. You can. A pro also will not let you ingrain errors. She'll correct them and teach you how to do things right, speeding learning.

Tip 4: Practice like you play

If you leave your best swings at practice, it's because you're not practicing to transfer skills from the range to the course. Transfer practice encourages specificity of learning. The process is called practicing like you play.

In other words, instead of hitting 25 drivers in a row, hit driver, then 7-iron, then PW-just like you'd do during a round.

Or hit wedges from a grassy area, not off a mat. Try to create actual playing conditions when practicing.

Tip 5: Work on one change

When you practice working on several changes at the same time you short-circuit the brain-literally. Repeating a movement changes your brain, increasing its efficiency in processing information and controlling movement.

But that's only if you're working on one change at a time.

Also, use training aids. Why-because the brain can not tell when you're doing something right or wrong. Training aids teach you to perform the skill correctly, ingraining the fundamentals the right way.

Tip 6: Practice, practice, practice

There's no escaping it. You have to practice to improve. Research shows it takes 10,000 hours of work to ingrain a motor skill. It also shows that you need to do something for 10 years to master it.

So it you're serious about shrinking your golf handicap, practice. No one's ever learned to play golf well without practice.

Tip 7: Buy Videos

Forget verbal training aids. Instead, use a video or a photo. We learn faster using our eyes, not our ears. So find a golfer that's good at a skill, like chipping, and watch her perform it.

This process is called "modeling." Modeling gives you a "blueprint" to guide your motions. So if you want to improve, buy videos.
